Godmanchester is to get new flood defences to protect more than 500 houses and businesses and the lessen the risk of annual flooding. Godmanchester has not had a major flood since the nineties but that is frequently due to the hard work of the locals and councils. With climate change the risks are increasing of major flood issues for low lying areas and so up to £11 million is being invested now to protect locals and the homes and businesses now.

Godmanchester is continually very vulnerable to the Great Ouse flooding its banks and spilling in to the main town. The plan was originally proposed back in 2005

Speaking to the Hunts Post Geoff Brighty, Environment Agency Area Manager said: "We are delighted to have received funding for the flood alleviation scheme. By investing up to £11million pounds in the scheme we hope that people can see the level of commitment we are making towards reducing flood risk in the area.
