Jane Hagger who was the Parish clerk for Upwood and Raveleys Parish Council admitted 30 offences of fraud by making false representations and one of the theft of a filing cabinet. Hagger started working for the council back in 2007 and fiddle around £6,000 over a number of years because of continuing money worries.

She had originally planned to repay the money after things got better however her situation never improved and the temptation to continue to take money also continued.
Hagger has omitted to the offences at Huntingdon magistrates court but the court has sent the case to the Crown Court for sentencing as they felt their powers of sentencing were insufficient.
Haggar of from Ramsey has been released on bail and will be sentenced by the crown court at a later date.
Talking to the News and Crier paper Peter Vialls, for Haggar, said she was ashamed and "deeply regretted" what she had done.
Laura Mardell, prosecuting, said in the same paper: "At the time of the offence she was clerk to the council and this case reflects the trust the position afforded her."
I think the hard bit for people to understand is the continuing nature of the deceit. To continue to hold a trusted position and to keep on taking public money is very serious and it is no wonder the magistrates have passed Hagger's on up to the higher courts.
I wonder what the local people of the villages of Upwood and the Raveleys think?
Anyone?

It was actually the Crown Court that sentenced her yesterday. Because of the seriousness of the crime the Magistrates passed it up to the higher court for sentencing.
