Some parts of Huntingdon town centre were closed today as protesters from SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animals Cruelty) march through the town.

Protesters had come from all from all over Europe including Itlay, Sweden, Ireland and Holland in a protest again Huntingdon Life Sciences at Alconbury, the largest animal testing laboratory in Europe. There were expected to be around 300 hundred on the march but police estimated around 120 turn up to march from Riverside

Huntingdon's ring-road was closed to permit protesters to cross in the High Street, they then marched to St Germain Street and onto the Town Park. There was a strong police presents, with police evidence gatherers, traffic police and a police helicopter overhead as well as 30 or so police in the Riverside Park.

The march started at 1.15pm to the chanting of "Close down HLS", carrying placards and drums.

The marchers also remembered Barry Horne, the animal rights activist who died in prison 10 years ago after going on hunger strike."

Did you see the march? How did the road closures affect you? Were you in favour of the march or do you think that it wastes valuable resources (such as policing) at a difficult time for everyone?

What a waste of our money. All that extra policing. Who pays for it? We do.
The authorities should have said no to the march.

And I bet lots of local businesses lost money because of it.
