For the fourth year running, pupils in Huntingdonshire schools have worked with the Police and other organisations to try to reduce anti-social behaviour in the build up to the summer holidays.
Huntingdonshire Community Safety Partnership has once again run its successful 'Streetwise' project for 11-12 year olds in senior schools across the district. Pupils took part in workshops carried out by Huntingdonshire District Council, Police, Fire Service and Drinksense, and the best and brightest ideas were awarded prizes of cinema tickets. Pupils learned about the dangers of fire setting and making hoax calls, the issues surrounding under-age drinking, the problems caused by littering and what actually happens if you get involved in anti-social behaviour. The day was rounded off with a session by Youth Offending Service on the consequences of anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Tom Sanderson, executive councillor for health and active communities said: "The aim of Streetwise is to get kids to understand that they don't have to cause problems to have fun this summer. They learn to recognise different types of anti-social behaviour and how to avoid getting involved in the kinds of problems that local people often complain about."
It is hoped that the exciting educational project will continue to run for all year 8 pupils in years to come.
