The body of Councillor John Skerry, who went missing during a dive near Oban has been located and recovered. Mr Skerry, 54, was a councillor on the Huntingdon Town Council and disappeared on Tuesday while diving in a group on the wreck of the WW2 merchantman wreck Breda in Ardmucknish Bay.
When Mr Skerry did not surface as planned from the popular dive site, an emergency call was put out by his dive boat, Brendan. Air, sea surface and shoreline searches were carried out by the Royal Navy, RNLI and Coastguard shore teams.
Underwater searches were also carried out on the day of the disappearance by divers from aboard the vessels Peregrin and Tritonia, and by a naval diving team. After further searches, Skerry's body was finally located and recovered by divers from Strathclyde Police at around midday on Friday.
Councillor Skerry was elected to serve the East ward of Huntingdon in May last year and was chair of the town council finance committee.
Councillor Colin Hyams, the mayor of Huntingdon, said: "At this sad moment, our thoughts are very much with John's family.
"He is greatly missed by all of us."
